April is the month we select and
purchase our pigs, lambs, and goats. We need to set our goals
and make our budget for the year, as well as figuring the days till
our final show. This will affect the price and size of the
animal you can purchase. There are many breeders and
sales in the state that have great
prospects.
You need to check the health program of
your animals with the breeders and make sure your prospect is up on
their vaccinations. Remember to worm all species each month with a
good wormer and rotate wormers to help break the worm cycle.
Ringworm is active in the cattle project and there are many methods
of control. Feel free to contact us for advice on
different solutions.
Many feed companies have good feed
programs for your projects. Be sure you keep
an adequate amount of feed on hand and make sure your
animal has available clean water. Study and select a good
supplement additive that will help put the finishing touch on your
project.
Daily care is important to success in
your project. Keeping the animal's skin and hair healthy is a must
for growing hair, as well as making hair and skin look fresh and
shiny. Working with the animal every day will also help make the
animal perform it's best at the shows.
Good luck in selecting your animals and
with the shows this month. We have a good inventory of supplies for
your beef shows along with products and equipment to
start your hog, lamb or goat project. Just give us a
call!
